What changed in the 2025 guidelines

The AHA released its 2025 CPR and ECC guidelines in October 2025, and Heart & Stroke Canada follows them. The manual and deck were written to the new text. Some of the changes: Choking Five back blows, then five abdominal thrusts, repeated until cleared. Infants get chest thrusts. p. 13 Bradycardia Atropine first. If it fails, go to transcutaneous pacing rather than more drugs. p. 31 Epinephrine timing In shockable rhythms, give it after the initial defibrillation. Epinephrine alone beats vasopressin combinations. p. 16 Refractory VF / pVT Vector change and double sequential defibrillation are not recommended for routine use. Post-arrest temperature Hold 32 to 37.5 °C for at least 36 hours in patients who do not follow commands. p. 58 Opioid overdose Naloxone may be given, but never at the cost of delaying CPR and epinephrine. p. 73 A summary, not a substitute.
